Amandari is designed in the style of a traditional Balinese village. Local artisans hand-carved the magnificent stone walls around the entrance pavilion; while andesite walkways, shrines and high paras stone walls are all of local origin. Buttressed by stone gateways, each thatched-roof Suite opens onto a walled garden – a private sanctuary amid the Balinese greenery. At sunset, the hypnotic sounds of gamelan players drift through swaying coconut palms. Amandari is a spiritual haven deeply connected to its community. The resort, set on sacred ground 129 steps above a Hindu shrine and statue dating from the 7th century, looks out over rice terraces amidst the wilderness of the Ayung Valley.
Dining
Looking out over the swimming pool to the Ayung Valley, the open-air Restaurant serves cuisine using locally grown ingredients with a distinctive Indonesian flair. Gamelan players perform every evening – their songs joined by a dusk chorus of birds – enveloping the serene tropical atmosphere.
Spa
A winding path leads through the gardens to the edge of a lotus pond – the setting for the Spa. This peaceful spot takes a holistic approach to therapies using local ingredients. Facilities include two open-air bales, a beauty room, sauna and marble steam room
